Island Wines – January 30th (Spring Mill Café)

  • Spring Mill Café 164 Barren Hill Road Conshohocken, PA, 19428 United States (map)

Instructor: Lauren Harris

If you are struggling with winter in Philadelphia instead of escaping cold temperatures somewhere tropical, don't worry – we are, too! That's why we're drinking island wines. Get your glass ready!

Island wines are a thing – the term refers to wines from southern European islands, such as Sardinia, Sicily, Corsica, and others, that are fresh, flavorful, and fun.

While each island has its own distinct terroir, climate, and indigenous grapes, the inherently austere growing conditions yield flavorful wines because the hardy vines vigorously soak up minerals and channel all their energy into fruit production. The temperature shifts brought on by the proximity to the sea produce high-acidity thirst quenchers that the wine gods intended for year-round enjoyment.

The class will take place at the iconic Spring Mill Café’s bucolic farmhouse in Conshohocken. Spring Mill Café is the local restaurant that has figuratively transported locals to France’s Loire Valley since 1978. For the complete experience, we suggest making dinner reservations before or after the class. We will be selling bottles for you to enjoy with your dinner.
