Blind Tasting: Old World vs. New World – February 18th (Tria WS)

  • Tria Wash West 1137 Spruce Street Philadelphia, PA, 19107 United States (map)

Instructor: Lauren Harris

Old World wines, originating from traditional European regions, often prioritize expressing terroir (the distinct influence of a vineyard's geography, climate, and soil on the wine) and exhibit subtlety with strict regulations, while New World wines, from non-European regions, embrace innovation, feature fruit-forward profiles, and have fewer regulatory constraints, allowing for greater winemaking flexibility.

Caveat: these differences are becoming increasingly blurred, so be careful of generalizations.

The Triaverse loves both wine worlds, so long as the wines are fabulous. But enough about us... what about you? Whether you have a strong opinion or none, this guided blind tasting will be revelatory, suspenseful, and fun. You will blind-taste four pairs of wines (eight wines total) of a classic European example compared to a more modern approach to that same grape. We'll compare, contrast, and vote on our favorites.

Guaranteed to be the least stressful voting all year! Sommelier certification NOT required.

Come with an open mind and palate. As always tasty Tria snacks will be served and we encourage you to join us for Tria's Happier Hour, from 4 to 6 pm before class!

Bottles will be available for sale after the class.
