Get to know better wines you already know: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel.
Instructor: Lauren Harris
It's back to school time, so let's get back to basics, shall we? No biodynamically grown orange pét-nat from Costa Rica until later in the semester. (Okay, that's not a thing.)
This class delves into classic Cali wines we all know how to pronounce and roughly what they'll taste like. (How un-Tria!) Chardonnay. Cabernet Sauvignon. Pinot Noir. Zinfandel. Comforting. Familiar.
The hook here is that all six selections are stylistically correct manifestions of these four rockstar grape varietals. We'll show you what California Chard, Cab, Pinot and Zin are supposed to taste like.
To drive it all home, Lauren will showcase selections from the estimable Varner Wine, which sells under both the (fancy) Varner and (less fancy) Foxglove labels. Located just south of San Luis Obispo, its vineyards are some of California’s closest to the Pacific Ocean. Mild winters, cool, foggy summer, and clay-loam soils produce a combination of flavors that have been described as “textbook Central Coast.” But fear not; there's no actual textbook.
