Put down that Margarita and discover the "emerging" wine region that's been five hundred years in the making.
Instructor: Lauren Harris
Move over, tequila. Step aside, Corona. After 500 years of winemaking history, it is time for Mexico's wines to steal the south-of-the-border beverage spotlight. Few areas have leaped as significantly in quality over the last several years as Mexico.
While its warm climate delivers full-bodied, fruit-forward wines with ease, producers are replacing power with balance, complexity, and variety experimentation. Mexican winemakers, known for their dedication and innovation, have been experimenting with both international and indigenous grape varieties, resulting in a unique fusion of tradition and modernity in every bottle. Mexican wine is still very much a frontier of wine.
Because Tria guests deserve nothing but the best, Wine Director Lauren Harris is visiting Baja California, Mexico RIGHT NOW, painstakingly researching the class topic. Arguably Mexico's most exciting wine region, the more than 150 primarily small scale wineries in the Baja Peninsula enjoy Mediterranean-like climate, morning fog from the Pacific, and valley topography similar to parts of California. Some have dubbed the region's Valle de Guadalupe the “Napa Valley of Mexico.”
Lauren will taste and tutor you on eight Mexican wines from the Baja peninsula as well as the acclaimed Valle de Bernal. Even if you enter this session skeptical, you will leave a believer. Salud!
