Alpine Wines (Lift You Higher and Higher)

Alpine Wine.jpeg

These wines got some 'tude! Attitude AND altitude. The mountain wines of Italy, Spain and Switzerland are fresh and intense.

Instructor: Clarke Boehling

Take your wine exploration to a higher level with this tour of Alpine wines from Italy (Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont), France (Savoie and Jura), and even Switzerland! Why are high-altitude (mountain) wines so cool? First is freshness – these have lower alcohol and higher acidity than their flatlander friends. Second is intensity – higher altitude means more intense sunlight, resulting in vibrant wines with more antioxidants. And who doesn't want more antioxidants?

Clarke Boehling is the producer liaison for Rosenthal Wine Merchant, one of the nation's most acclaimed importers of rugged, low-tech, deeply authentic European wines. Part of Clarke's job (except during a pandemic) is to visit Rosenthal’s 115 growers twice each year to check in.
